Birmingham’s city center is home to some outstanding entertainment venues. Among them are the Alabama Theatre, Lyric Theatre, Red Mountain Theatre, Carver Theatre, McWane IMAX Dome Theatre, and many more. Like sports? Then this is where you want to live. Regions Field, home of the Birmingham Barons, is one of the finest ballparks in America. Nearby, you can find UAB football and basketball, as well as regular events at the BJCC.
The Magic City is home to some of the best museums in the South, and many of them are easily walkable for city center loft residents. The Birmingham Civil Rights District National Monument features the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, 16th Street Baptist Church, Kelley Ingram Park and other landmarks. Other attractions include the Negro League Museum, Birmingham Museum of Art, McWane Science Center, Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, and Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Don’t forget nearby Vulcan, Sloss Furnaces and many more.
The city center is booming right now. The main entertainment areas include Five Points, Lakeview/Pepper Place, Avondale, Uptown, Parkside, and the Theatre/Loft District. But they’re kinda bursting at the seams, so the boundaries are a bit blurred. Each area features some pretty sweet restaurants. Here are a few of our favorites in the immediate downtown area: Paramount, Cafe Dupont, Trattoria Centrale, Brick & Tin, Revelator Coffee, John’s City Diner, El Barrio, Urban Standard, Bistro 218, Pizitz Food Hall and Carrigan’s Public House.
You can find the nightlife in the same areas listed above. These are some of our favorite watering holes in the immediate downtown area: Wine Loft, Good People Brewery Tap Room, Collins Bar, Pale Eddie’s Pour House, Tavern on First and Rogue Tavern.
Just as the population, restaurants and nightlife has been exploding, so has the quality of life. The city center is more walkable and bike-friendly than ever before – especially with Zyp bikes available. Here are some parks and trails right in downtown Birmingham you’ll enjoy: Railroad Park, Rotary Trail, Eddie Kendricks Park, Kelley Ingram Park, Linn Park, Marconi Park and many more.
